From initial design to final completion, Country Gardens can create a contemporary garden to fit around your busy working household. After an initial enquiry about how Country Gardens could assist them with achieving their goals, our owner Charlie MacLauchlan and in-house designer Gavan Rostron met the couple at their home.
Our home visit is designed to uncover more information about the likes and dislikes of the client, how and when they spend time outdoors, as well as allowing our in-house designer to get a feel for the size and true potential of the space available.
Gavan could then proceed with drawing their new garden design, confident that he had all of the information required to meet the brief for this busy professional couple. After approving the design, the customer sat down with our team to talk through the best choice of materials.
Stone and hardwood combine with easy to manage planting.
Clean lines and natural materials make this a contemporary but timeless garden. An Iroko hardwood pergola defines an area where the couple can sit with a glass of wine, with the relaxing sound of the floating pot fountain in the background. York stone sourced from nearby Yorkshire quarries and Indian sandstone provide a hardwearing and attractive finish to the patio and raised beds; while simple to manage planting softens the overall look and reinforces the sense that this is a peaceful and welcoming domestic space.
In all, this design shows that you can own a spacious, modern garden on a relatively small footprint. After a home visit and detailed discussions with the couple, our in-house designer enabled our landscaping team to deliver a garden that surpassed the brief. This guaranteed that the household could enjoy getting outdoors in a space that would continue to be low maintenance as it aged.

Like many of the homeowners we work with, a busy professional couple already had a clear vision for their new garden. Having sketched their ideas into an initial draft, they invited the Country Gardens landscaping team to work with them in transforming their drawings into reality.
A bit from our company director Charlie Maclauchlan
“I started my career in horticulture in a plant nursery at just 13. After studying amenity horticulture through my employer I gained NVQ levels 2 and 3 before attending Askham Bryan College specialising in landscape design. I graduated in 2001.
With Country Gardens I have a team of experts at my disposal to help you create your ideal outside living space. With years of experience between us, our group knowledge of plants, garden design and landscaping is second to none. We take great pride in creating beautiful surroundings that you can enjoy throughout the year.
It’s important to me that this care and attention is applied throughout every aspect of the business. From waste composting to advising homeowners on bee and wildlife friendly planting schemes; we hope to have a positive environmental impact whenever we can. That way we can preserve our outdoor spaces for generations to enjoy.”
“Country Gardens have done an amazing job of landscaping our garden. From concept to completion their skill and professionalism was excellent and we now use them for ongoing maintenance.”
